July 2-6: Roots: Wild Cuisine Cooking Camp
Does your child want to be a wizard in the kitchen? Want them to learn safe use of knives and kitchen tools? Nourishing and natural cuisine is the name of the game in this culinary camp, which provides experiential hands on learning for young chefs.
Campers will develop a connection to where their food comes from by supplementing our breakfasts, lunches and dinners with wild food gathered from the landscape.
We will learn how to prepare a variety of dishes together with a focus on wild, local, and organic ingredients. Your young chef will learn how to cook various meals for groups of people, preparing them for many meals with friends and family to come.
In between cooking campers partake in other nature based activities. Campers will learn how to carve, making their own wooden spoons to eat from during the week. There will be opportunities for other natural crafts such as dreamcatchers. Campers will get exercise hiking and exploring the land, foraging for wild edibles as we go. We will learn the art of fire building and tending, using the fire to gather around, cook treats, and brew foraged teas. We will also fire our primitive pottery made from natural clay. Days will be interspersed with fun nature inspired games that get children in their bodies and into sensory awareness. Mindful eating practices and thanksgiving will be themes spanning the entire camp.
Each night we will gather around the fire, sharing songs, stories, games, and treats. Come enjoy village life in this extraordinary culinary camp!
